Nicotine pouches: a beginner's guide
New to pouches? What they are, how to start, and how to avoid the common mistakes.
A nicotine pouch is a small, tobacco-free pouch you place between your gum and top lip. There is no smoke, no vapour and no spit. Inside is nicotine, plant fibre, water and flavouring, but no tobacco leaf, which is the main thing that separates a pouch from traditional snus.
How to start
If you are new, begin with a low strength, around 3mg to 6mg per pouch. Put one under your top lip, leave it for a few minutes, and see how you feel. A light tingle is normal. You can keep a pouch in for up to an hour.
Common mistakes
The biggest one is starting too strong. A very high-strength pouch can feel harsh, dizzy-making even, if you are not used to nicotine. Start low, and only move up if you need to. The second mistake is chewing or swallowing the pouch, you do neither, it just sits in place.
